Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino betting is not legal. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling hall, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel compound that highlights many luxuries aside from the casino, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
