Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino betting is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.
The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge casino, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights numerous amenities in addition to the gambling den, which provides ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
